Postcarding Lower Styria – work in progress

Wednesday, 22 March 2017

In the last few months we started collecting data. These were intense, but very successful months!

The first cooperation partner that granted us access to their huge collection was the Public Library Celje. This important collection of postcards focuses mainly on Celje and the Savinja region. Our team member Jernej Kosi spent most of his January there. In February, Karin Almasy was cordially invited to look through the private postcard collection of Theodor Domej, which mainly consists of Slovene postcards from Carinthia, but also contains some notable items from Lower Styria. In March, Eva Tropper visited the Admont Abbey, where she spent a week looking through a remarkable private collection compiled by a Benedictine monk. Project leader Heinrich Pfandl meanwhile expanded his own private collection at the 11th International Collectors' Fair Collecta in Ljubljana.

During this first step in our working process, we are trying to investigate the distribution patterns in the above-mentioned collections by recording the findings in tabular form. In a second working step, a selection of relevant postcards is being scanned and will be incorporated in our digital platform of Postcards from Lower Styria (POLOS.)

We benefited enormously from the goodwill of our cooperation partners who granted us access to their materials. We want to thank all of them – without their warm welcome and support our work would not have been possible!
